VILLA URARA THE COAST

This is a new construction plan for a rental villa located at the entrance to Aki City, Kochi Prefecture, on a site overlooking Tosa Bay. When planning, we focused on sunsets to take advantage of the site's prime location. This is because the sea stretches out to the southwest of the site. While researching the west, which is usually disliked in Japan, we came across the Buddhist word "parlamitta," which means "to wish for the best" or "to be the best." The sun setting in the west has been considered sacred since ancient times. By arranging the various rooms on the building's axis facing due west, we designed the building to provide a stable view of the sunset throughout the year. Every year on the spring and autumn equinoxes, the sun sets on the axis of the building, literally creating a building that is close to the experience of viewing the "best sunset."
